Indigenous teaching resources - references list
Hi folks,
In the School of Psychology @ UQ, as part of the School’s reconciliation action plan, we’ve been working on some references to support teaching content about Indigenous Australians in our psych courses. I’m posting to provide a copy of our references list for wider circulation.
Indigenous teaching resources - references list
I am also happy to update the list with references or comments. This is a teaching resource though NB - not an attempt to create a comprehensive bibliography! Please send me refs that you find useful for your undergrad courses, or could imagine being useful in teaching; same with multimedia recommendations.
We aim to cover all of psych, but since the ref list was developed primarily by social psychs … ;)
cheers,
Winnifred
Brisbane Symposium for Self and Identity: Invitation
Dear all,
I’m writing to invite you to attend the 2008 Brisbane Symposium on Self and Identity. As some of you would know already, the BSSI is a FREE meeting that is designed to bring together academics from South East Queensland, interstate and overseas. Although the BSSI has historically (and nominally) got roots in the social identity tradition, it has long ago expanded its repertoire to deal with topics of interest to social psychologists more generally. It is a forum for the exchange of ideas, the discussion of theoretical and conceptual issues, the presentation of current research, and the establishment and strengthening of formal research connections in this field.
This year, the symposium will be held September 20 and 21 at the School of Psychology, University of Queensland. We are pleased to present the following local, interstate and international speakers:
SEPTEMBER 20
Lucy Johnston (University of Canterbury): “I don’t want to play with you
again: Reactions to ostracism by in- and out-group members”
Ottmar Lipp (University of Queensland): “Categorising by race: Faster is not better”
Jennifer Spoor (University of Queensland): “You’ve come a long way, baby?:
Affective and identity consequences of thinking about women’s progress”
Blake McKimmie (University of Queensland): “Stress in groups”
Janelle Jones (University of Exeter): “Managing multiple identities: The experience and negotiation of identity conflict”
Zlatko Skrbis (University of Queensland): “Interrogating Identities in studies of nationalism and cosmopolitanism”
Leda Blackwood (University of Queensland); “From apathy to action: Models of union commitment”
Naomi Ellemers (University of Leiden): “Morality as a source of group value”
Laura Smith (University of Exeter): “Changing social identities: Social consensus as a foundation of stereotype threat”
SEPTEMBER 21
Russell Spears (University of Cardiff): “Nothing to lose: Desperate circumstances require desperate measures”
Fiona Barlow (University of Queensland): “Intergroup metacognition predicting prejudice: Perceiving rejection by the rejected”
Dick de Gilder (Free University, Amsterdam): “Social identity and contingent work”
Brandon Stewart (University of Queensland): Title TBA
Katherine Reynolds (Australian National University): “Legitimacy and social
change: The role of identity processes in system justification and system rejection”
If you are interested in coming along PLEASE RSVP BY SEPTEMBER 10. Please contact either Jolanda Jetten; j.jetten@psy.uq.edu.au, or Winnifred Louis; w.louis@psy.uq.edu.au. We will also be able to provide you with information about accommodation in Brisbane if necessary.
