The University of Queensland's School of Psychology is the largest in Australia in terms of student and academic staff numbers. There are approximately 45 lecturing staff, and approximately 150 postgraduate students, some of whom are undertaking coursework programs, some research programs, and some a combination of the two types of postgraduate programs. Because of the number and diversity of its staff, the School has thriving and dynamic research profiles in almost all areas of psychology and is able to attract visitors from overseas and from other institutions in Australia. There are also good links, often through cross-appointed staff, with other Schools in the university (e.g. Computer Science and Human Movement Studies), thus creating opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborative research. All this generates precisely the sort of intellectual environment that is ideal for postgraduate study.
The School is located in its own building, a four-level structure around a delightful sub-tropical courtyard. Additional space is occupied in an adjoining building. In addition to staff offices, teaching rooms and common areas, there are a number of laboratories and specialist facilities available for research in specific areas of psychology.
The School of Psychology teaching staff has been actively recruited from within Australia and from overseas. Many are recognised internationally as leaders in their fields.
The School of Psychology has a high level of involvement in research and postgraduate training. It is well recognised internationally in a wide range of research interests.
