LOCATION: Room 302 McElwain Building
TITLE: The cross-cultural recognition of emotion expressions: Ingroup advantages and outgroup confusions
There is considerable agreement that emotion expressions can be pan-culturally recognized at very high levels of accuracy. However, there is also evidence that accuracy varies considerably between groups and specifically is higher for recognition of expressions by cultural in-group members. These differences can be traced to subtle differences in expressions between cultures (nonverbal dialects) but also to motivational factors and the differential application of decoding rules. Examples for these processes will be discussed.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
