One of the featured events for UQ Diversity Week will be a FREE public lecture by Carmen Lawrence, on "Racial Disparities in Health & Health Care"., organised by the School of Psychology.

Carmen Lawrence, whjo has a PhD in Developmental Psychology from UWA, was Premier of Western Australia (1990 - 1993), Australian Minister for Health in the Keating Government (1994-1996), and the first directly elected President of the Australian Labor Party (2004), and was Federal Member for Fremantle (1994-2007). She is currently a Research Professor at UWA. She is one of the most influential Australians of recent times, ans has worked throughout her career for the well-being of women, of Indigenous Australians, and of refugees. She is also a strong advocate for green energy and for a social-science perspective on tackling climate change. She's also a great speaker and well worth an hour out of your busy day.
 
The talk covers the political and personal aspects of racism and how it affects health service delivery to Indigenous Australians.
