Understanding the development of insomnia:
results from some recent work in Glasgow
Persistent insomnia is a common disorder affecting 10-12% of the adult population and cognitive behaviour therapy is now the treatment of first choice. This presentation will briefly overview the CBT outcome literature, with particular reference to research undertaken in Scotland. Recent data on information processing bias and effortful preoccupation with sleep will then be discussed as potentially important factors in insomnia development and in the pathway to successful insomnia treatment.
