PARENTING AND FAMILY SUPPORT CENTRE FORUM

PARENTING AND FAMILY SUPPORT CENTRE FORUM
Start:
Tuesday, 8th November 2005

Carmen Spry from the Parenting and Family Support Centre will present the next Forum on Evidence-based Parenting and Family Intervention.
Tuesday November 8 from 4:00 - 5:30pm.
Room S227 Social Sciences Building
Wine and cheese provided.
Transition into parenthood is a life-changing event for both men and women and has numerous social and personal consequences ranging from a somehow re-defined social identity as mothers and fathers to the physical strain of caring for a newborn. This presentation will give an overview of the literature regarding this critical period establishing which factors seem to be most important in predicting a positive transition. Currently, there is no Triple-P program that focuses specifically on parents who desire preparation and training before and during the first year of parenting. “Starting Well” Triple P is an intervention to promote a positive transition to parenthood for first time parents; details of the proposed intervention will be introduced. The program design and content is still “work in progress” and we are very open for feedback from people who work with this population or have an interest in the area of parent training.
